Here’s a chance to find out more about Senior Energy Analyst Dave Schofield.
We discover why he has 6 screens, why quick decisions are key and who he would like to be for a day…
What’s your role at Optimised Energy?
I’m a Senior Energy Analyst – Energy Trading
What’s the best thing about your job?
It can be a high pressured environment. Markets can be highly reactive to everyday news stories, which means there’s a need to implement risk strategies and capitalise on market reactions with quick decisions. It certainly keeps you on your toes.
What are your hopes for our industry?
I’d hope innovative technology can pave the way for a sustainable, cost effective future to eliminate energy poverty amongst developing countries. I’d also be keen to witness the transition away from a reliance on fossil fuels, and how the UK energy market adapts.
Whether that be in grid level solutions, or a decentralisation of the market into a micro-grid society.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Day-to-day I’ll be monitoring, analysing and reporting on commodity markets, trading the gas and power of our flexible procurement clients and liaising with clients on developing detailed procurement strategies. I also discuss their traded performance.
A large proportion of my day is spent staring at 6 screens with graphs, prices and news reels. It can go from tracking an LNG ship on a live map in the morning, to client meetings to construct risk management strategies in the afternoon.
What did you want to be when growing up?
An architect or civil engineer, I’ve always admired buildings and structural designs and have a passion for problem solving. If you could witness any historical event, what would you see?
The 1966 world cup final. What an atmosphere it must have been to watch England win the world cup at home. If given a chance who would you like to be for the day?
Yuri Gagarin – the first man to journey to outer space. Being the first person to look back on the earth must have been an unbelievable experience, something I would love to have done.
What do you like to do when you’re not in the office?
I love to go travelling, experiencing different cultures and most importantly tasting the local foods
What’s your personal mantra?
Life is a journey, not a destination.
What inspires you?
Family, friends and the people I’m surrounded by.
